RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”

by admin

Syndication is designed to make your Web life easier by giving you a totally customized stream of information from your favorite sources on the World Wide Web.

It is very similar to subscribing to a print Newspaper or Magazine.

You choose who you want to read and keep in touch with in the “Blogosphere” and RSS keeps you 100% up to date.

When you subscribe to an RSS as a “Feed” from a Blog you enjoy, RSS grabs every new Post at that blog and holds on to it for you. So when you find a blog you like - I sure hope our blog falls into that category - you subscribe to the RSS Feed to keep 100% up to date.

You don’t have to do anything else after subscribing … RSS does all the work for you even if you end up subscribing to a number of different blogs and other Feeds.

RSS Subscription Options:
On our site you can see over there in the right-hand column - that you have two options for subscribing to the Leadership Styles Blog.

In a Feed Reader:

If you click on the big orange RSS button, you’ll be taken to a subscription service we really like called “Feedburner” which allows you to subscribe to our RSS feed in any one of a number of “Feed Readers”.

The Feed Reading services put all your subscriptions in one place. You go to your feed reader when you’re ready to catch up on the latest blog posts and all of your subscriptions are there waiting for you and 100% up-to-date. If your network on the web, feed readers are a great way to keep in touch with all your favorite blog authors.

I highly recommend the Google Reader and use it for all my subscriptions. You can get your own Free Google Reader page at this link: http://www.google.com/reader

You can also Subscribe Via E-Mail

Again in the right-hand column, you can see the E-Mail Subscription Form. If you subscribe to our RSS Feed via e-mail, you will be e-mailed every time I post new content here on the blog.

Unlike the Feed Readers which keep all your subscriptions in one place - and you get to decide when you go there and catch up on your reading - an e-mail subscription notifies you by e-mail each time new content is posted on each of the blogs to which you’re subscribed. I personally prefer a feed reader - again Google reader is my favorite - and if you prefer e-mail, the sign-up form is on the right-hand side here.

The more you network on the Web and the more you get your information from experts who publish blogs like Leadership Styles Blog the more you’ll want to use RSS Subscriptions and Feed Readers to make your life that much easier.
